The Grip
Your Starting Point for Power & Control
Read any golf magazine or watch the Golf Channel and you are almost guaranteed to be bombarded with information and articles about increasing power.
Much of the focus of these articles revolves around the power generated by the core of the body (abdominals and center of the body) and while I totally agree that this part of the body is responsible for providing the actual horsepower in the golf swing, I believe the hands are the ultimate cog in the power source equation that cannot be overlooked when it comes to any discussion of power or contol.
The hands ultimately work as a team to transmit the power generated by the body through the golf club and finally into the ball. Without the proper placement of the hands, additional tension is necessary to control the club which is the killer of effortless power.
Proper placement of the left hand is critical for a right handed golfer and the left hand's role in the release of the swing is to actually provide stopping force so the right hand can continue to accelerate through the hitting area and into the release.

| Heel pad of left hand on top of the shaft will provide stability and control and allow the club to both hinge and release freely. | When left hand is positioned properly, the "V" created by the thumb and forefinger will point to the right shoulder. | This is how the hands blend together to form the perfect grip that is free from tension and able to transmit power from the body to the ball. |
